Fetal neurogenesis: breathe HIF you can.

چکیده
Microvascular circulation creates a supporting niche for neurogenesis through the secretion of angiocrine factors. The emerging concept that energy balance and metabolic status play a role in the modulation of stem cells suggests that oxygen delivery by nearby capillary vascular beds could also regulate neurogenesis. Blood vessel formation and neuron production proceed in a coordinated fashion in the developing cerebral cortex, providing a unique opportunity to test the possibility that oxygen supply regulates cell fate decisions in neurogenic niches. The interesting study by the Carmeliet laboratory yields evidence that this is indeed the case and identifies HIF-1a as the central element.

Onm-9: Pollution and Fertility
Air is our main contact with the environment in which wefind ourselves. Every day, we breathe in 15 kg of air; that’s more than our daily food intake. Air, in cities and confined environments where houses are really close together, consists of particles of different sizes charged of chemical pollutants. The finer particles will come into contact with the alveoli and will allow some pollutants g...

BACKGROUND Erythropoietin (EPO), originally identified as a hematopoietic growth factor produced in the kidney and fetal liver, is also endogenously expressed in the central nervous system (CNS). EPO in the CNS, mainly produced in astrocytes, is induced under hypoxic conditions in a hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-dependent manner and plays a dominant role in neuroprotection and neurogenesis. We...
متن کاملDelayed hyperbaric oxygen therapy promotes neurogenesis through reactive oxygen species/hypoxia-inducible factor-1α/β-catenin pathway in middle cerebral artery occlusion rats.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) has been reported to be neuroprotective and to improve neurofunctional outcomes in acute stroke. However, it is not clear whether delayed HBO enhances endogenous neurogenesis and promotes neurofunctional recovery. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of delayed HBO therapy on neurogenesis and its potential mechanisms. METHODS One hund...

medicines that you should not take on the day of your test. What is spirometry? Spirometry is one of the most commonly ordered lung function tests. The spirometer measures how much air you can breathe into your lungs and how much air you can quickly blow out of your lungs. This test is done by having you take in a deep breath and then, as fast as you can, blow out all of the air. You will be bl...
